I teach acoustic and electric guitar and violin in rock, folk and classical styles to students of all ages and abilities.
I also teach singing and performance in a wide variety of styles and due to demand, I have recently started to teach the ukelele.
I aim to teach in a clear, lively and encouraging way, demonstrating techniques and concepts which can be difficult to grasp at first. As far as possible I tailor my lessons to my students, recognising their interests, learning style and prior knowledge, I also work on the understanding of music, which includes:
- Improvisation and the importance of ‘feel’ in music
- Reading of notation and tablature.
- Music theory and how to apply it
- How to develop an “ear” and to understand how instruments interact in an arrangement
I work with bands on performance and other elements of stagecraft, and prepare students for grades, awards and auditions. My goal is to pass on my love and enthusiasm for music as well as my expertise.I draw on over 30 years experience as a professional musician playing guitar and violin in bands.
I have an enhanced DBS check and I’m a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors and the Musicians Union.
I’m based in Whitby, north Yorkshire. Please do get in touch on 07854 628 606 or email firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to book music lessons with me.
I teach children 18 mths – 5yrs basic music depending on age and ablity – this can be based on singing, rhythm, or keyboard or a combination and we usually use a favourite song as a starting point.
My current rates are £16 for half an hour and £30 for an hour. Longer lessons are available by arrangement.
I also run workshops for individual performers and bands.
